   9 is a filter which allows examination of compressed or plain text files
  10 one screenful at a time on a soft-copy terminal.  It is the equivalent of
  11 setting the environment variable LESSOPEN to '|gzip -cdfq -- %s',
  12 and the environment variable LESSMETACHARS to
  13 '<space><tab><newline>;*?"()<>[|&^`#\$%=~',
  14 and then running
  15 .IR less .
  16 However, enough people seem to think that having the
  17 command

  19 available is important to be worth providing it.
