  21 The motivation for the circuits and software you will find on this site is
  22 our loosely-knit group's shared interest in hobby rocketry.  Rather than
  23 try to introduce the hobby to you here, we note that John Coker
  24 has published an excellent
  25 [overview of hobby rocketry](http://www.jcrocket.com/welcome.shtml)
  26 on his web site.  Keith has also put together some useful notes about the
  27 process of [certification](http://keithp.com/rockets/certification/) to
  28 fly high power rockets.

  33 As Bdale and Robert became more experienced in the hobby and started to build
  34 and fly more sophisticated projects, we started to feel limited by the
  35 existing electronics products available.  AltusMetrum was Bdale's first
  36 attempt to address this situation with a completely open hardware and software
  37 design... other project have since followed, and it's cool to have help from
  38 various friends!

  43 is our primary project, a dual-deploy rocketry altimeter with improved sensor
  44 complement and bidirectional RF telemetry link.

  47 is a simple RF interface for use in ground stations interacting with rockets
  48 using [TeleMetrum](TeleMetrum/).  It may also be useful as a generic RF
