71
OpenRocket is a free, fully featured model
72 rocket simulator that allows you to design and simulate your
73 rockets before actually building and flying them.

74
The main features include:

76
Six-degree-of-freedom flight simulation

77
Automatic design optimization

78
Realtime simulated altitude, velocity and acceleration display

79
Staging and clustering support

80
Cross-platform (Java-based)

82
Read more about its <a
83 href="features.html">features and see screenshots.
85
OpenRocket is an Open Source project licensed under the
86 GNU GPL. This means that the
87 software is free to use for whatever purposes, and the source
88 code is also available for studying and extending.
90
OpenRocket needs help to become even better. Implementing
91 features, writing documentation and creating example designs are
92 just a few ways of helping. If you are interested in helping
93 make OpenRocket the best rocket simulator out there, please

99
16.9.2012: Version 12.09 is
100 released!

101
This version contains a huge number of new features by many contributors:

103
3D rocket design view

104
Component Presets

105
Custom expressions in simulations

106
Printing for centering ring and clustered centering ring components

107
Support simple arthmatic in dimension entry

108
Support deploying recovery device at stage separation

109
Support for fractional inches (1/64) for unit length

110
Added preference for windspeed units separately

111
Added "most recently used files" in File Menu

112
Improved printed accurracy in fin marking guide

113
Calibration rulers added to printed templates

114
Translations in Czech and Polish, numerous updates

116
10.3.2012: Version 12.03 for desktop
117 and Android is released!

118
In this release the version numbering scheme has been changed.
119 From now on the version number is YY.MM indicating the
120 year and month of the release. Bug fix releases are indicated by
121 an added ".1".

122
This also marks the first release for Android devices. In this
123 first release you can open files and examine existing simulations,
124 stability data and motor files. The Android port is thanks to
125 work by Kevin Ruland.

126
Enhancements in the desktop version include saving designs in RKT
127 format thanks to Doug Pedrick, freeform fin set import form images
128 by Jason Blood, configurable stage separation
129 events, guided help tours and displaying the computed motor
130 designation class. The application has also been translated to
131 Italian by Mauro Biasutti and Russian by the Sky Dart Team.

132
24.11.2011: Version 1.1.9 is
133 released!

134
For this version Richard Graham has implemented geodetic
135 computation methods, which take into account the curvature of the
136 Earth and the coriolis effect. The computation method is selected
137 by the Geodetic calculations option in the simulation
138 options. It's not (yet) a full spherical computation model, but
139 should be accurate enough for almost all sub-orbital needs.

140
Doug Pedrick has also enhanced the printing system with the
141 ability to print fin positioning guides, transition templates and
142 nose cone profiles. Other smaller enhancements and bug fixes are
144
25.8.2011: Version 1.1.8 is
145 released!

146
This release contains bug fixes to the optimization methods.
147 It also contains a workaround to a JRE bug that prevents running
148 OpenRocket on some builds of Java 7.

149
The web pages have also been somewhat updated and Boris du Reau has
150 created a separate site
151 for coordinating the localization efforts for OpenRocket.

152
12.8.2011: Version 1.1.7 is
153 released!

154
This release includes automatic rocket design optimization
155 support (Analyze → Rocket optimization).
156 You can optimize any amount of rocket parameters for apogee
157 altitude, maximum velocity or a number of different values.

158
While the automatic optimization is a powerful tool, it is very
159 easy to optimize against particulars of the simulation methods,
160 instead of true physical phenomena. Always keep common sense at
161 hand and take the results with a grain of salt.

162
22.7.2011: Version 1.1.6 is
163 released!

164
This release includes initial localization support and
165 translations to French, German and Spanish. This is thanks to the
166 great work of Boris du Reau, and the teams from Tripoli France,
167 Tripoli Spain and ERIG e.V. If you prefer to use some other
168 language than the system default, you can select the language on
169 the "Options" tab of the preferences dialog.

170
The release also includes design scaling support and numerous bug
172
10.6.2011: Version 1.1.5 is
173 released!

174
This release includes updates to the printing system which fixes
175 printing on Windows.

176
5.3.2011: Version 1.1.4 is
177 released!

178
This release includes initial printing support, thanks to Doug
179 Pedrick. Printing still has a few issues on some platforms.
180 Various bugs have also been fixed.

181
6.10.2010: Version 1.1.3 is
182 released!

183
This release includes support for moving and copying components
184 in the component tree using drag-and-drop. Use normal DnD for
185 moving, and control-drag for copy. This release also fixes a
186 severe bug in the undo system.

187
7.9.2010: A bug-fix version 1.1.2 is
188 released!

189
This release fixes a severe bug in 1.1.1 that prevented adding stages
190 to rocket designs. Users are recommended to upgrade.

191
3.9.2010: Version 1.1.1 is
192 released!

193
For this release a major part of the simulator code has been
194 rewritten for better flexibility in future development. It also
195 includes a vastly improved thrust curve selection dialog, the
196 possibility to loading user-defined thrust curves and better
197 startup times than previous releases.

198
Simulation listeners written for older versions of OpenRocket
199 are not compatible with this release.
