   1 # What do I do about a virus warning when installing AltOS?

   3 As long as you're downloading from altusmetrum.org, any virus or trojan
   4 warnings you get, particularly on windows, are false positives.

   6 We build everything from source using only open source tools on a well
   7 maintained Linux system, sign all our Windows installers with a
   8 Microsoft-approved
   9 cryptographic key, and distribute the bits from a well maintained Linux
  10 server we own .. so there's really no plausible chance of infection.  We're
  11 highly confident that there's nothing vile in our code, and there's no
  12 way for us to know what about our builds might cause them to appear to
  13 still look too much like a virus in the minds of some anti-virus tools.

  15 If your anti-virus tool is complaining, the best thing to do is report
  16 this false positive to your vendor.  If they hear about it often enough,
  17 maybe they'll fix it for you.  In the meantime, the only answer we know of
  18 is to turn off your anti-virus tools long enough to download and install
  19 our software.
